Sing it with me now . . . “The wheels on the bus go round and round” . . .

It is that time of the year again!  Children will be heading back to school this month and families will need to recalibrate their routines.  Can you hear the Googlemaps voice declaring….”RECALIBRATING”?  Vacations, playdates, sleeping in late and swimming pool trips will be in the rearview mirror, and school attendance and homework will reign.  As parents, we have to be deliberate about establishing routines for our families so that our children can be successful in school.  Let’s face it . . . if we didn’t establish routines, our children would never turn off the TV, never take a bath, never do their homework, never eat their vegetables, never brush their teeth, and never go to bed before midnight!

As Christian parents, we are also called to establish spiritual routines so our children develop Godly characters and learn to walk in love, truth and grace.  We need to be praying with our children, studying God’s Word together and teaching them that church attendance is a necessary ingredient in our spiritual walk.  We have to establish the routine of worshipping God and growing together in Christian community.  If we don’t establish these routines, “worldly” routines will gradually be established that lead them down paths of sinful behavior and take their hearts far from God.

As the school year begins, I would like to encourage you to take time as a family to commit to weekly church attendance.  Meditate on these scripture references and seek God’s face as you RECALIBRATE your family this month.  God Bless Your Family!

Proverbs 22:6  Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

1 John 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

1 Thessalonians 5:5  You are all children of the light and children of the day.  We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
