Who We Are

Quake is the youth ministry of Marysville First United Methodist Church.
We have weekly gatherings, along with events, and trips throughout the year. Our name is based off of these words in Haggi 2:6-7.

"This is what the Lord Almighty says:

'In a little while I will once again shake the heavens and the earth, the sea, and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,'  Says the Lord Almighty."

We yearn for students to be filled with the love of God and to make a difference for Christ in the world - through the power of God at work in them.

The MISSION of Quake: Quake exists to bring every teen in Marysville and Union County into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ: To inspire all youth to LOVE God with all their might, to LIVE as passionate, life-long disciples of Jesus Christ, and to LEAD others to Christ.

2017 CONFIRMATION DETAILS

This January, we will begin one of my favorite opportunities for our students.  Our Confirmation Program serves as an opportunity for youth in grades seven and above to explore the Christian faith and to make a commitment to become a disciple of Jesus Christ.  Each youth will learn what it means to be a Christian and a member of the United Methodist Church.  The goal of this program is not for students to simply become members of this church, but for them to learn to love Jesus with their whole hearts and to love the church as it carries out Jesus’ mission in the world.  Nothing gets me more excited than this!

There will be a mandatory orientation and information meeting concerning the 2017 Confirmation Program on Sunday, January 8, at 5:00 pm in the Upper Room.  Classes will take place Sunday, January 15 through April 23 from 9:30 am-12:15 pm.  The entire confirmation class will attend worship and Sunday school together as part of the confirmation process.  January 15-February 19, the students will attend 9:30 worship and have class at 11:00.  The Confirmation students and their parents will be leading shifts for the Fellowship Breakfast on April 2 as a way to serve our church. February 26 –April 23, they will attend class at 9:30 and worship at 11:00.  Our mandatory confirmation retreat will be the weekend of March 3-5.  We will celebrate Confirmation Sunday on April 30 with our rehearsal dinner on Saturday, April 29.

Each youth will be assigned a mentor group that they will meet with throughout the Confirmation Program. On January 8, we will discuss the schedule, curriculum, and expectations for Confirmation; fill out the necessary paperwork; and answer questions.  Please bring your child’s date of baptism to this meeting if they have already been baptized. Your attendance at this meeting, all the classes, and the retreat is very important to make your Confirmation experience both meaningful and memorable.  Attendance is mandatory at the January 8 meeting for youth and at least one parent.  Youth are also required to attend all of the Confirmation Retreat and at least 80% of the classes and church services in order to be eligible to be confirmed.  Any exceptions must be cleared ahead of time with Kathy.

We encourage you to prayerfully and faithfully consider your participation in the 2017 Confirmation Program.  Traditionally, Confirmation has been offered to 7th graders, but if you do not feel your child is ready, we encourage you to wait a year.  Families are also encouraged to be actively involved in the confirmation process.  There are a number of Sunday school classes available for you to attend during the Sunday morning hours, and families are welcome to sit with the confirmation class during worship each week.  The students who gain the most from confirmation are those whose parents are actively involved in making this a positive experience and a priority for their entire family.

We are eager to embark on this exciting journey of discipleship for Jesus Christ with you.  We hope to see you on Sunday, January 8, at 5:00 pm in the Upper Room.   If you have any questions, please contact Mark Confer at mark@marysvillefumc.org.

International Mission Trip -- Honduras!

Quake youth (exiting 9th graders) and young adults are invited to consider this exciting opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ in Honduras this summer.  You will partner with the ministries of World Gospel Mission (WGM) in El Sembrador, Honduras as you minister to the people there. You will have many opportunities as you help with VBS projects, clothing distributions, work projects, food distributions, visiting hospitals, and encouraging the local church. You may have opportunities to share your personal testimony and talk about what God is doing in your life. You will be exposed to living life in another culture as you team up with this exciting ministry. The dates are May 27 - June 3, 2017. The cost is estimated to be $1635.00 (final cost determined after tickets are bought by WGM). Registration and deposit due by December 15 (go to www.quakeyouth.org and click on "Register for an Event" tab).
